The president of the Pokemon Company Tsunekazu Ishihara appeared on the Nintendo Spotlight stream to announce that GameFreak has begun development on a core Pokemon RPG title for the Nintendo Switch. "Core" indicates that this will not a spinoff, it will be a major installment, much like Sun/Moon, Red/Blue, ect. Unfortunately, no gameplay or other news was given about this new Pokemon game.

As this will be the first Pokemon on a home console, one can expect such thing as voice acting, CGI cutscenes, and high quality graphics. Although the Switch is portable, there will also likely be a number of narrative and gameplay adjustments to make Pokemon work better as a home console game.

Shortly after the Nintendo Spotlight, the Japanese Twitter for Nintendo confirmed that they are aiming for a 2018 release for Pokemon Switch.
