A new trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was shown off at Nintendo's Spotlight event.

In Xenoblade Chronicles 2, you take control of Rex. Rex forms a bond with Pyra, an immortal from the mythical Elysium. Pyra is known as a Blade, which means she has the ability to grant tremendous power to others. Blades imbue other characters with a weapon of some sort. In Pyra's case, she gives Rex a Monado-looking sword called the Aegis. The two go on a search for Elysium, the ultimate paradise for all humanity.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 appears to be a more traditional sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles than the Wii U's Xenoblade Chronicles X was. XC2 retains a lot more elements of the first game. Just the setting alone is practically the exact same: in an endless ocean of clouds, the last remnants of civilization live on the backs of colossal beasts called Titans. Due to the unique makeup of the world, there is a lot of verticality to the level and story progression.

Xenoblade Chronicles X dropped the British dub seen in the first game and was instead localized in the United States. However, this is not the case with XC2, which is being localized by a European company. It just doesn't feel like a proper Xenoblade game without an awful British dub, and I mean that sincerely.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 releases this holiday season.

After the Spotlight event, Nintendo showed off nearly 30 minutes of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 gameplay during their Treehouse stream.

The Treehouse stream shows off the new combat. Combat is still real time and standard attacks are automatic like the first two games. As you deal basic damage to enemies, you build up your special skills, referred to as "arts". the arts palette has been greatly altered; instead of moving through a list of moves, you use the four buttons on the right joycon controller.

You will notice that only Rex is really doing the fighting while Pyra takes a support role. During combat, the link between Rex and Pyra become visible, indicating Pyra is charging him up. Although Pyra is immortal, due to the bond she formed with Rex, if he dies, she will too.
